Non-toxic skincare
Non-toxic skincare

So this post isn’t giving my usual “kids recommendations”. I want to share some non-toxic skincare. I will not claim to be an expert on skincare, just a person sharing some information. Recently, I saw the class action lawsuit involving CeraVe BPA face wash (which I was using religiously), and it basically scared me straight. Since then I have been looking to find some safer alternatives. CeraVe was recommended by my dermatologist, and I know its recommended by many.
OK, back to non toxic makeup. As I mentioned before, Im not going to pretend to know anything about makeup or the makeup industry. This is also just a preliminary look at finding new products that are safer. In my simple search, I found that you want to look for skincare products that have been EWG Vertified. What does that mean?
When makeup is EWG Verified, it means it meets the standards set by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) for health, transparency, and environmental safety. The EWG Verified seal is given to products that meet rigorous criteria and are considered safe for both people and the planet. Here’s what it involves:
- Ingredients Safety: The product contains no ingredients known to cause health issues such as cancer, developmental harm, or hormone disruption, according to EWG’s standards. Ingredients are carefully assessed, including fragrance components, which are often left undisclosed in many products.
- Transparency: Companies must disclose all ingredients, including any hidden ingredients that may be part of “fragrance” or “flavor” labels. This transparency ensures that consumers know exactly what they’re putting on their skin.
- Environmental Responsibility: EWG verifies that products are manufactured with minimal impact on the environment. This includes considerations around sourcing, production, and packaging where feasible.
- Good Manufacturing Practices: Products must follow good manufacturing processes to ensure consistency, quality, and purity. This also involves quality control to avoid contamination during production.
Essentially, EWG Verified makeup is designed to be as safe and transparent as possible for users, prioritizing both health and sustainability standards. The EWG Verified mark helps consumers make safer, healthier choices in personal care products.
Non-toxic skincare items
For me personally, I switched to Farm to Skin by Patricia Walker for my face wash. Let me preface this post by saying that this is NOT sponsored content. I am genuinely recommending these items, and nobody has paid me or given me anything for free to list these items. This product is NOT EWG Verified, but its ingredients all have a “low” score for safety concerns.

There are some brands that you’ve probably heard of that are better for your skin (Ogee, Ilia, Physicians Formula, Jones Road etc.) Data on their ingredients indicates a LOW hazard, but the data on their ingredients is “Limited” . This means that yes it could be safe(er) but we just don’t know (yet). I encourage you to do your own research on the makeup you are using at https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/
