Thanksgiving Books for Children
Thanksgiving Books for Children
Here are some of my favorite Thanksgiving seasonal books! These are books that I would recommend for my own children and books that I use in speech/language therapy. For some of these, I have attached the link to worksheets that I have created and use to check for comprehension.
Balloons Over Broadway! Such a cute book for an elementary school aged child. I have also created a worksheet with 12 multiple choice questions and 9 visuals to aid in retelling!
Pete the Cat and the First Thanksgiving is a cute and simple way to learn about the Pilgrims. I have added a worksheet that I made which includes 12 questions with 2 visual choices to check for comprehension. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Pete-the-Cat-First-Thanksgiving-VISUAL-2-choice-comprehension-check-speech-12455634

Pookie’s Thanksgiving, good for toddlers and babys.
This is a good book for children who are elementary aged, I would say around second-third grade and above. It explains the First Thanksgiving pretty simply, but there is still some advanced vocabulary.
What can I say, the “old lady who swallowed a___” books continue to be popular choices for holidays. There are a lot of activities that go with this book as well that you can find on teachers pay teachers.
I would recommend this book for 8+.

The author describes a time before the two cultures meet. The next book I have listed is from the same author and represents the meeting.
“Richly detailed paintings show how the pilgrims lived after landing at Plymouth, through the dark winter and into the busy days of spring, summer, and fall. Culminating with the excitement of the original Thanksgiving feast, Three Young Pilgrims makes history come alive.”
Ages 6+. This book answers all of those “Wh-” questions around the Mayflower. It reads as questions with answers so it is simple to follow and straightforward.
This is a best seller for ages 3+
Everyone knows I love a little golden book! Elmo invites his friends over for a special meal, and of course there is a problem that needs to be solved.
Great for babys/toddlers. Realistic pictures, basic vocabulary.
