Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?

Why Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Was the Perfect Water Park for Our Little Kids (40” & 42”)

If you’re planning a Disney water park day with little ones, choosing between Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon can feel overwhelming. After spending a full day at Typhoon Lagoon with our two young kids (ages 3 and 5, heights 40” and 42”), I can confidently say — we chose right.

Here’s a recap of our day, why Typhoon Lagoon was a hit, and the two rides we couldn’t stop riding.

🌴 Why We Chose Typhoon Lagoon Over Blizzard Beach

We researched both parks in advance, and while Blizzard Beach has some great high-thrill slides, Typhoon Lagoon offers more for smaller kids — especially those under 48 inches.

Here’s what sealed the deal:

  • Ketchakiddee Creek: A huge kids’ play zone for children under 48” — perfect for our two! It had mini slides, splash pads, floating boats, and gentle spray areas. We saw the 48″ or below rule strictly enforced! So there are no older kids running down your babies!
  • Chill vibes: Typhoon Lagoon is lush, tropical, and much more shaded. It felt less chaotic and more “vacation-y.”
  • More rides they could actually do: Including a family raft ride — which became the highlight of our day.

🎢 Our Favorite Ride: Miss Adventure Falls

We loved Miss Adventure Falls so much we rode it five times. Yes, five.

This family-style raft ride lets everyone ride together, and there’s no height minimum as long as small riders can sit upright with a parent. The theming is adorable, the drops are just the right amount of fun (not scary), and the conveyor belt lift means no stair climbing — which is a win when you have littles in tow.

Our kids were belly laughing every single time. It’s fast enough to be exciting but smooth and totally non-intimidating.

🌊 A Surprise Hit: The Side Slide Near the Wave Pool

Another unexpected favorite? The small body slide next to the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool (the big wave pool). It’s an unassuming slide that shoots you out right at the edge of the wave pool. Both of our kids loved this one and wanted to do it over and over. It felt like a secret slide because it didn’t have a long wait, and it gave the perfect little adrenaline rush.

Parents: just be ready to get wet from wave splashes as you wait! Also, the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon has much larger and more intense waves than Blizzard beach, so be careful! The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon may not be for everyone.

💦 Other Kid-Friendly Favorites

  • Castaway Creek (Lazy River): A peaceful float for the whole family. We did this mid-day when the kids needed to reset.

🧴 Tips for Parents of Little Kids at Typhoon Lagoon

  • Life jackets are free and encouraged — grab one as you enter the park.
  • Arrive early to snag shaded chairs near Ketchakiddee Creek or the wave pool.
  • Bring water shoes or sandals — the pavement gets hot.
  • Pack snacks and a refillable water bottle, but know there are plenty of food options inside (we recommend the mini donuts!). We saw people bringing entire COOLERS into the park! So bring what you want.

Final Thoughts: This Park Was a Win for Our Family

At 40” and 42”, our kids were right on the edge of being “big enough” for some water park fun, and Typhoon Lagoon gave them that perfect balance of exciting and manageable.

Between our endless rides on Miss Adventure Falls and the laughs on that surprise wave pool slide, it was a day full of firsts, giggles, and great family memories. If your kids are in this same height range — Typhoon Lagoon is 100% the better choice.
