Things I Bought For Therapy as a Speech Pathologist

The school year started last month, and I thought I would share some of the new materials that I purchased to use in therapy. These are items that I find useful in engaging children in therapy. This is only what I bought NEW for the quarter. We use much, much, more in therapy.

BASIC SORTING for improving language skills. Children love working with little manipulatives.

Improving language skills by determining and expressing the similarities between two photos.

The potato head might be the MVP of early language learning. You can never have enough potato head parts. I have a great resource on my TPT store detailing how to use potato head with your own child to practice language skills. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Parent-Handout-How-to-use-Mr-Potato-Head-to-increase-language-skills-10937671?st=c4ced30020859badf054fab7fdf83d95

I have a lot of kids this year who are speaking for the first time with the help of farm animals and animal noises. We love a good farm activity. This simple puzzle can promote language skills, joint attention, and cause and effect.

My assistant recommended this game to me. I have not used it yet, but it looks very intriguing. You have to save all the toys on the tongue before the gobble monster eats them. We can use elements of describing, identifying, labeling, and turn taking.

Balloon launcher! To be used as a top tier reinforcer for participation. Also, turn taking and describing.

Wooden picture scenes. Everyone knows by now that I love a good wooden toy (they last), and I love Melissa and Doug. These picture scenes are stellar for therapy. You can target following directions, prepositional phrases, identifying, and labeling.

THE FACE BANK! yes, my therapy kiddos LOVE TO FEED THINGS. You would be shocked what a great reinforcer this is.
