Our Stay at Disneys Grand Floridian
🎉 Our Magical Stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort With Kids
We celebrated our son’s birthday with a stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and it was everything we dreamed of and more. This resort has long been known as Disney World’s flagship hotel — and now we know why. Between the timeless elegance, amazing convenience for families, and magical touches around every corner, it’s a stay we’ll never forget.

If you’re thinking about staying at the Grand Floridian with kids, here’s everything we loved about it — and why we’d 100% go back.
🏰 First Impressions: Grand, Magical, and Totally Disney
The moment you step into the Grand Floridian’s iconic five-story lobby, you feel like you’ve entered a classic Disney movie. A grand piano plays live music, fresh floral arrangements scent the air, and white balconies line the upper floors. It’s stunning — but also warm and welcoming, even with kids in tow.

The kids especially loved the vintage elevator and watching the monorail glide overhead through the windows. But the moment that made our trip? Goofy called our kids from the vintage phone in the lobby! That surprise Disney magic totally set the tone for our stay.
🎂 A Birthday to Remember
We booked the Grand Floridian for our son’s birthday and Disney made it feel extra special. From complimentary birthday buttons to cheerful greetings from Cast Members, the experience was filled with thoughtful little touches.

🛏️ Our Room: Family-Friendly Comfort + Perfect Location
Our room was not only beautifully decorated with soft colors and elegant Disney theming, but it was also in close proximity to everything — the pool, the splash pad, the quick-service dining, and the main lobby.
Traveling with young kids, that short walk really made a difference. Whether we needed to refill a water bottle or head back for a nap, everything was just steps away.

Rooms at the Grand Floridian are spacious, offer plenty of storage, and come with thoughtful features like balconies, mini-fridges, and double sinks in the bathroom — perfect for families trying to get ready in the morning.
💦 Poolside Perks: Splash Pad + Service
Hands down, one of our favorite parts of the resort was the Alice in Wonderland-themed splash pad. It’s colorful, safe, and so much fun for younger kids. Our children could’ve stayed there all day. Right next to it is a zero-entry pool, which made it easy for our toddler to enjoy safely.

And get this — you can order food and drinks and they’ll deliver them to you poolside or at the splash pad. This was HUGE. No standing in line or trying to juggle a tray while wrangling kids. We ordered snacks, lunch and even cocktails for the grownups, all without leaving our chairs. 👏
🧩 Bonus Play Areas for Kids
Beyond the pool, there’s plenty of space for kids to run and explore. We loved:

- Oversized lawn games like Connect 4 and cornhole
- A small putting green area perfect for mini golf fun
- Wide-open green spaces great for letting kids run off extra energy
The resort feels spacious and relaxed — you’re never far from a shady bench, a snack stand, or a fun distraction.
🎇 Fireworks From the Resort
One of the most magical perks of staying at the Grand Floridian is the view of Magic Kingdom fireworks right from the property. Each night, music plays through the speakers as the sky lights up over Cinderella Castle.
We watched from the marina, drink in hand, kids in pajamas, and no crowds or rushing. It was one of our favorite memories from the trip.
🍽️ Dining Options for Families
The Grand Floridian offers several dining options, ranging from signature fine dining to quick bites for busy park days. Some highlights for families include:
- Gasparilla Island Grill – The resort’s quick-service option with kid-friendly meals, mobile ordering, and indoor/outdoor seating.
- Grand Floridian Café – A table-service option with a relaxed feel and a great kids’ menu.
- 1900 Park Fare – This character dining spot is a family favorite, newly re-opened.
- Poolside bars and lounges also offer kid-friendly meals and drinks in a casual setting.
While the resort leans more upscale, we found plenty of food options that worked for our kids’ tastes — and the convenience of mobile ordering was a huge plus.
🚝 Location + Transportation

Staying at the Grand Floridian puts you just one monorail stop away from Magic Kingdom, which is perfect when you’re traveling with littles who need midday breaks. There’s also boat transportation to Magic Kingdom, bus service to other parks, and a walking path that gets you to the gates in about 10 minutes.
We loved the flexibility of being so close — it gave us time to enjoy the resort and the parks without feeling rushed.
💖 Final Thoughts: Is the Grand Floridian Worth It With Kids?
Absolutely. Between the convenience, the thoughtful Disney details, and the magical touches throughout the property, our stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian was a dream come true — especially for a special birthday trip.

It’s luxurious, but still very welcoming for families. The kids were enchanted, and we felt relaxed, pampered, and truly on vacation. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or just want to experience that iconic Disney charm, the Grand Floridian delivers a stay that’s both magical and memorable.
