Considering we don’t get to go many places without toddlers, I’m excited to write about our brunch at Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar, in Tampa, FL. Whiskey Cake is in International Plaza Mall. We just happened to stop in while Christmas shopping one week day.
The waitress initially tells us about the concept of the restaurant, which is really cool. She states that everything is made “farm fresh”. From their website, they say “Whiskey Cake is your neighborhood joint for craft cocktails and farm-fresh comfort food. We source flavors, ingredients, and ideas straight from the farm, because good food tastes even better when it’s grown locally.” Ok, great.
We ordered two Old Fashions to start, my husband got their special and I opted for the most popular on the menu, American Pie (browned-butter Evan Williams 1783 Bourbon, vanilla, peach bitters). The first sip put hair on my chest, it was STRONG, but shockingly delicious.
For lunch my husband got the WTF Burger ((What the Fondue?) ground angus, fondue butter, caramelized onions, arugula, baby dill pickles, buttermilk vinaigrette, potato bun) with fries. He commented that it was top notch and cooked perfectly.
I got the Hot Hen (crispy spiced chicken, lettuce, chile mayo, potato bun). It comes with TWO very large chicken breasts. I ended up giving my husband one breast because otherwise I couldn’t eat it like a sandwich. It was not hot, so if you like super spicy chicken, this really isn’t it. It was right up my ally though because I like my spicy chicken not TOO spicy. I thought it was absolutely stellar. I ordered the house cut chips and they were perfect.
I noticed a sign outside that said that they have Build Your Own Bloody Mary’s, which I think would be perfect for another brunch. If you are with a group of friends, celebrating and shopping, this is YOUR PLACE!
Their instagram says that they are currently doing Build Your Own Bloody Mary during Saturday & Sunday brunch from 10-3 for $13.
