Board Books
My Favorite Board Books for Babies/Toddlers
Board books are essential tools for fostering early childhood development in babies and toddlers. These sturdy, durable books are specially designed to withstand the often enthusiastic handling of little hands, promoting a tactile exploration that engages multiple senses.
The vibrant and contrasting colors, simple shapes, and large, clear images in board books stimulate visual perception and help in the development of early cognitive skills. Additionally, the concise and repetitive text in many board books aids language development by introducing basic vocabulary and facilitating the understanding of simple concepts.
The interactive nature of board books encourages bonding between caregivers and young children during shared reading experiences, fostering a love for books and laying the foundation for future literacy skills.
Overall, board books serve as valuable tools in nurturing cognitive, sensory, and social-emotional development during the crucial early years of a child’s life.

As a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist, an author, and a mom of 2 toddlers, these are my favorite board books!
Opposites (An oldie but goodie!)
Peek-a-Who (recommended because of the repetition on sounds)
The Where is Baby’s Series of books (good for teaching first concepts)
Everything is Mama (another book I love because of the word/phrase repetitions, also good for identifying because of the many animals and objects)
Time for Bed (recommended because of rhyming- rhyming sequences are very important in language development)
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes (recommended because of rhyming and number concepts)
Touch and Feel Animals (recommended because you can use it to facilitate the imitation of animal noises/sounds, a prerequisite skill for first words)
The ever popular Baby Signs book (It’ss a popular book but for good reason. These signs truly are the first signs we teach and are very simple for babies to pickup).
Baby Faces (recommended for talking about feelings)
This is a Book of Shapes (One of my favorite books ever. Very simple for learning shapes).
